Bikram Dasgupta, Founder and Chairman of Globsyn Group, fondly known as BDG, is a visionary entrepreneur with interests in Education, Information Technology, and Skill Development. An alumnus of Harvard Business School and IIT Kharagpur, he is among the early pioneers of India’s IT industry, witnessing its evolution from start-ups to global giants.

The rise of India’s IT industry saw the emergence of first-generation entrepreneurs – bold visionaries with no business lineage, driven by ambition, innovation, and a determination to rewrite the rules.

Bikram Dasgupta’s journey is a testament to this transformation, marked by highs and lows, audacious dreams, and a fearless appetite for risk.

He came; he innovated, disrupted and brought new rules into the game that helped India to start a new era which inculcates a trend of not only merging technology and innovation into one frame but also sculpting them into a form of knowledge for the youth.

The Innovator
Bikram Dasgupta has always been an innovator at heart, constantly challenging and redefining industry norms. From pioneering the concept of the Knowledge Finishing School™ to integrating AI and Machine Learning into Globsyn’s IT services, he has consistently introduced groundbreaking ideas that bridge technology, education, and business. His visionary approach has not only transformed organizations but has also created sustainable models that continue to shape the future of India's knowledge economy.
The Entrepreneur

Bikram Dasgupta has played a pivotal role in reshaping India's IT industry, from pioneering affordable computing with the groundbreaking 1992 ‘Dell Deal’ to elevating India’s global IT presence. As a part of MAIT’s (Manufacturers Association for Information Technology) Executive Council, he conceptualized IT Asia, a grand industry platform modelled after CeBIT (Germany), to showcase India’s IT capabilities. Serving as its President (1993-95), he helped IT Asia grow into Southeast Asia’s largest IT Trade Fair by 1995, surpassing Taipei’s IT Fair. Recognizing the need for world-class infrastructure, he spearheaded the creation of ‘Infinity’ in 1996, India’s first intelligent workplace in Bengal, signalling the country’s emergence as a Global Software Offshoring Hub.

Committed to developing globally competitive talent, Bikram Dasgupta has launched the Knowledge Finishing School™ (KFS), a pioneering pedagogical innovation integrating Acquisition, Application, and Management to develop performance-driven professionals. Over the years significantly very large numbers of engineers have been exposed to this initiative and are now working for some of the top national and international companies in India and abroad.

Bikram Dasgupta is a trailblazer in education, technology, and entrepreneurship, setting up India’s first Corporate B-School, Globsyn Business School (2002). Under his visionary leadership, Globsyn successfully integrated technology with management education, challenging the myth that ‘management and technology are separate identities’. This pioneering approach led to the establishment of Globsyn Business School.

His other visionary initiatives include BPO Academy (2004) and the Asian Institute of Family Business (2009). He expanded Globsyn’s technology footprint globally with Synergy Log-In Systems (2006) and created India’s first ‘Work Habitat,’ Globsyn Crystals (2008). His focus on skill development led to Globsyn Skills (2010) in partnership with NSDC, Globsyn EduSkills (2014), and SkillsXchange (2015), India’s first virtual employment exchange. A strong advocate for start-ups, he launched Kolkata’s first co-working space, KnowledgePub, and Startup Café for incubation.

" A hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account number was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove - but the world may be different because I was perhaps important in the life of a few young men and women on whom I tried to impart some values to live better, work better and above all, be better."

The Philanthropist

Bikram Dasgupta’s philanthropy, deeply inspired by his mother Kalyani, is dedicated to creating lasting change through the BDG Foundation’s Calcutta Broadway and the Kalyani Foundation. Through the Kalyani Foundation, Dasgupta introduced innovative concepts in old age care and for specially-abled adults. His philanthropic efforts include the ‘Feed The Poor’ initiative, which supported thousands of migrant laborers during the COVID-19 lockdown. Kalyani Foundation's approach to giving back is unique, as it focuses on continuous and structured support. It builds homes, provides free rations, celebrates festivals in old-age homes, supports education, and brings joy to those abandoned by society. BDG has inspired young volunteers to connect with and support the less fortunate, promoting a sense of belonging within the larger Kalyani Foundation family.

Dasgupta has always envisioned shaping young minds into industry-relevant compassionate managers. Recognizing his vision, Globsyn Business School has imparted the right balance of knowing, doing and being skills amongst its students through various ‘Care for Society’ activities under the Kalyani Youth Leadership Forum (KYLF), one of the ‘Beyond Education’ initiatives. The forum actively works in the verticals – Elderly Care, Differently-Abled Care, and Channelizing Youth organizing impactful events such as ‘Kalyani Ananda Utsav’ – a large-scale inter-school carnival, blood donation drives, cancer awareness camps, eye screening for underprivileged children, celebrations with the elderly living at senior homes, amongst others.

Calcutta Broadway, an initiative by the BDG Foundation, focuses on blending Bengal’s cultural heritage with philanthropy in the performing arts and also extends medical aid through the BROADWAY HEALTH CARD for struggling artists and their families. Dasgupta’s commitment to social impact was evident during the COVID-19 lockdown when he provided free rations to the baul community of Birbhum.
